Profile - The Hair Studio

The Hair Studio opened its doors for the first time on April 1, 1990 by owner-operator, Rich Shreve. Located at 303 N. Meridian St. in Portland, Indiana, The Hair Studio’s address has been a barbershop for nearly 40 years.

Miller’s Barbershop first operated out of this address in the early 70’s. Shreve bought the building fro Eldon Miller in late March of 1990, and in a weeks time remodeled and reopened the shop under the new name, “The Hair Studio”.

Both Clubman and Roffler product lines are available, each line offering a nice selection of shampoos, gels, creams, pomade, tonics, waxes, and sprays.

Rich Shreve is a certified master barber whose experience goes back to the late 70’s. After graduating from Ohio State Barber College, Shreve went to work at Westbrook Barbers in Toledo, OH.  He worked there from 1979-1989 on a wide variety of clientele, mastering a large number of styles.

In the year 2005, after 15 years in business, The Hair Studio got a facelift. Remodeling on the outside included new siding, new sign, and a new awning. On the interior was where the big changes took place. Prior to the remodel the inside already has a masculine look with wood paneling and leather wingback chairs. With the philosophy of a barbershop being a place men should be comfortable the remodel ideas was a natural. A garage theme, with toolboxes for a back bar, workbenches to store supplies. Diamond plating, assorted auto paraphernalia, shop lights, model cars, auto prints, and a racing flag checkered floor. There’s even a chrome air cleaner turned into a candy dish to store lollipops for the young customers.
