The Jay County Historical Society website
www.jaycountyhistory.org is the new website address for the Jay County Historical Society’s website
A committee of dedicated historians is currently at work to bring the rich history of Jay County to the Internet. This group has been meeting at the Jay County Historical Museum located at 903 East Main St. Portland, Indiana every week since the first Saturday of January 2009. The website jaycountyhistory.org, is currently online for you to monitor it’s progress. The committee and other volunteers of the Jay County Historical Museum are busy modifying and recreating the vast amount of historical information found within the Museum, to a format that can easily be displayed on your computer screen.
The purpose of jaycountyhistory.org is to promote the Jay County Historical Museum’s archives, relics, and the educational opportunities provided by the society. As quoted by Jerry Hartzell a member of the Jay County Historical Society and local web developer of sitesby.com, “The vision for this project is to build a website that not only provides information about Jay County History, but also a communications tool that will be used to promote the current offerings and educational opportunities of the Museum. ”
You can visit the Jay County Historical Museum Monday through Friday between the hours of 10:00am – 12:00am, 1:00pm – 4:00pm. Volunteers are welcome to assist in all areas. To contact the museum you can call 260.726.7168, or email at history@jaycounty.info.
